Editing Tool Ideas

       Being a film & media arts major, I have done some fairly extensive video editing compared to most non-film majors. That being said, most of the editing work I do is narrative and not extremely experimental in nature. I use the Adobe Creative Suite apps including Adobe Premiere and After Effects to edit my videos. In Premiere, there are tons of video effects options at your disposal. You can use masking to combine two separate video elements and make them into a single frame (like cloning yourself). You can also use masking to transition from one clip to the other seamlessly if filmed properly. There are also many options for applying video effects over your videos to make them more experimental and more personal.     After Effects is a refined program for doing visual effects and visual trickery.
