The first movement I'd like to talk about is Psychedelic Rock. I'm personally not a huge rock fan because it hurts my ears. That being said, my favorite artist from this genre (and favorite artist in all of music) is a different breed and that is the one and only, Tame Impala. Tame Impala's songs are created almost entirely by Kevin Parker. Parker writes, produces, and performs all of his music. Even though he is a modern artist, he still uses old technology to record his music. It gives his music a more organic feeling than what new digital equipment gives. My favorite album of his is "Currents" which is perfection from start to end. Next up is "InnerSpeaker" which is older and more psychedelic. The second musical movement that is one of my favorites is Motown. One of the most important and influential technologies from the 21st century is the invention of the digital camera. Cameras are used to capture moments in life as they happen and are extremely powerful because we live in an incredibly visual world. Almost every person learns and lives by visual means and being able to exploit that by presenting images captured by cameras is destined for attention and revolution. The predecessor of digital cameras is film cameras. Film cameras work by exposing 24 frames per second (typically) of celluloid film. Before and after exposure through the lens, film cannot be exposed to light until it is processed. If it is exposed, the film is ruined. This delicate process meant that shooting on film is tedious, time consuming, and most importantly, expensive. The invention of the digital camera revolutionized society and the filmmaking world.   Performance Art to me is something done to bring awareness to some aspect of sociality and culture. Often, performance art is driven by deep personal experiences by an individual, often negative experiences that create trauma for that individual or group. Performance art is often done in ways that are attention grabbing, obscure, and odd. Doing things in this way grab people’s attention and shines light on a subject that might not otherwise see the light of day. That being said, one has to make themselves uncomfortable and vulnerable in order to get their message across. It can be extremely difficult for people who are already vulnerable to expose themselves in this way but at a certain point, it has to be done. If the message has little relevance to themselves then the performance art piece will suffer as a result. Why try to send a vulnerable message that has little relevance to you when you could do something more personal. Everyone has their insecurities. Dig deep to find you...

  One of my favorite segments from plays in Angel de Quinta’s Stage Door blog was Glenn Close’s performance of “As if We Never Said Goodbye” in Sunset Blvd. Her portrayal of Norma really is fantastic. Her voice is exquisite and the combination of her grand stage voice and orchestral music really made me in awe. One of my other favorite plays was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory performed at the Theater Royal Drury Lane. This was one of the few plays that I have prior knowledge about because of the films that were made about the story. It was interesting seeing characters that I grew up watching as a kid come to life in the form of a live performance. So much work had to be done with costuming and set design I can’t imagine the amount of hours all of the crew put into that production. Lastly, I liked Gwen Verdon’s performance of  “If They Could See Me Now” in Sweet Charity. Watching a solid performance that involved a great deal of humor was a nice to watch compared to some of...
